Fit Beyond Forty now offers virtual personal training!

Gyms are reopening, but many of us won’t return. We look at the gym and see easy transmission of germs and viruses. How many hands have touched those weights and machines? Especially near the cardio machines, exercisers breathe heavily, producing respiratory droplets or aerosol that we might inhale. If not the gym, what options do we have to get fit?

Fortunately, you can get a great workout at home. With virtual personal training, you receive the benefits of personal training in the comfort and safety of your own home. I coach you through live workout sessions, connected on the internet through your computer, smart phone, or other device.

One of my personal training clients successfully made the switch from the gym to her living room through virtual personal training. She wrote,

By working out virtually, I don’t feel the need to “be cute” in special outfits at the gym; I’m not competing with anyone for the machines; there’s no worry about germs; and I can take a shower in my own house. I’m feeling so much better and happier.

Frequently asked questions.

What technology do I need for virtual training?

You need an internet connection and a computer or tablet with camera, or smartphone. If you don’t have a computer or tablet with camera, or smartphone, but you do have Facebook and WiFi, another option is Facebook Portal. Facebook Portal is a video display with a simple interface for video calls.

Do I need exercise equipment?

You don’t. Body weight exercises will give you a great workout. If you have equipment, such as bands or dumbbells, I’ll integrate them into your training.

How much space do I need?

Very little. If you have enough space for you and a chair, we’re set.

How is this different from YouTube or other online classes?

Classes on YouTube provide general fitness classes, but can’t meet your specific needs. Online classes may be too hard or too easy. My virtual personal training service starts with an assessment and then proceeds with a custom-designed workout. At each virtual session I adjust your exercise program in real time to meet your needs, as well as assure that you’re performing each exercise correctly.

How does a virtual personal training session work?

At our appointed time, I connect to you through FaceTime, Zoom, Google Hangouts, Skype, Facebook Portal or any other mode of communication that works for you. Through your video screen I demonstrate the exercises and coach you through your workout. Set up your phone, computer, or tablet so that I can see you perform each exercise.

I’m new to exercise and fitness. I’ve never even been to a gym. Will virtual training work for me?

It’s better. Going to the gym for the first time can be perplexing. How do the machines work? Should I use the machines or the free weights? How am I supposed to dress? Why am I the only person here not in my mid-twenties preparing for a physique competition?

When you work out at home you don’t have to worry about any of these things. I’ll take you step by step through each exercise, encouraging you along the way. Dress any way you’d like.

I’ve been working out for a while, so I’m no longer a newbie. Can I get a good workout from home?

Absolutely. Expect challenging workouts that include core, balance, strength, and power.

How do I pay for sessions?

We set up automatic monthly payments on your credit card.
